Though youth (10-24 years) form a large part of our society and constitute a distinct group with unique needs, in practice, they mostly remain marginalized due to lack of youth focused strategies addressing their needs and comprehensive development. Our initial program focus for youth out of school was specifically on HIV and AIDS awareness and services which has now moved to a more holistic approach , encompassing sexual and reproductive health and rights education, access to services, nutrition education, skills and leadership development. Working with youth in both urban and rural setting, our approach is to build their capacities as peer educators to mobilize other young people on the following issues and also various stakeholders:
♦ HIV transmission and prevention.
♦ Promotion of voluntary counseling and testing.
♦ Stigma and discrimination faced by PLHA
♦ Youth Information Centers
♦ Effects of Early Marriage and Early Pregnancy on health of young people.
♦ Young Peoples Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights.
♦ Prevention of child marriages
♦ Prevention of violence against women and girls
♦ SAHAS also strives to impart a life skills and sexuality education to young people in schools which enables them to be responsible in exercising their sexual and reproductive health rights.
